Star Kingdom of Lethar

Lethar is not one of Avarra’s giants by land or population. Its star defences, centuries of magical training, and elite forces gathered under a single command make open war unacceptable to both the Ordan Empire and neighbouring crowns.

Capital

Astereth · 1.6–2.2m

Throne

Child-ruler Serel; a brittle regency of Houses Aelor, Miravel, and Selent.

Scale

About 8.8–10.6m settled people; roughly 7m are High Elf households and their institutional network.

War threshold

When the Star Veil opens, sky, pass, and water defend Lethar together.

Peoples and place

High Elves have their only coherent homeland in Lethar. The SD 83 ledger’s roughly 7 million High Elves are distributed across Astereth’s 1.6–2.2m metropolis, Miravel gardens, Telor Gate, Silent Meridian, star farms, terrace towns, and observatory settlements. A High Elf elsewhere is normally an envoy, researcher, temporary exile, or traveller—not proof of a large diaspora.

Aasimars are rare even in Lethar. Astereth’s Silent Children, Star Watch, and healing-geometry schools draw marked families, but outside the kingdom one or two Aasimars in an ordinary city is already unusual. Lethar claims no ownership over them, while its claim to educate and protect them is politically contested.

City Gnomes are not auxiliary artisans. Nine Canals, observatory clocks, star mirrors, water cleansing, lenses, and the terraces’ balance depend on their expertise. The crown rewards them with workshops, pay, and chairs; Gnome guilds insist that maintenance knowledge and emergency shutoff authority remain theirs.

A deterrent, not an empire

Lethar does not compete in mass armies. The Nine Station Guard holds terraces, canal gates, and passes; Meridian Mages divide battlefields with counter-magic; Mirror Fleets break siege logistics, communications, and magical movement. An invader loses route, water, and reliable spell travel before reaching Astereth.

The doctrine is not conquest but denial: invalidate every safe calculation an army needs to advance. Ordan cannot conquer Lethar at an acceptable cost, and Lethar cannot conquer Ordan. Their peace is measured deterrence, not friendship.

Adventure pressure

  • A star seen only by False Star children makes the Mirror Fleets mistake a route for an invasion.
  • City Gnomes seek equal technical representation without surrendering Nine Canals’ maintenance keys.
  • Ordan calls Telor inspection a cause for war; Lethar finds prohibited siege lenses in the convoy.
  • One Aasimar child fleeing Silent Meridian becomes a witness neither kingdom will release.
