Tortles

D&D reference

Tortles are turtle-like humanoids. Their natural shells can protect them without wearing armor; swimming and coastal living are also common themes. The fact that they carry a strong urge to travel and explore after their brief adulthood in the default D&D narrative aligns directly with the tradition of the Long Shell Paths.

Canonical record

Tortles have no fixed state. Long Shell Roads is a cultural unity consisting of islands, monasteries and migration routes. It is expected that every adult will go to another continent at some point in his life and return with a new story, seed or rule of law.

It is not long life that is important, but slow and careful memory. Shell patterns can be painted with travel records.
