Red Meridian is a line before it is a city. Brass inlay beneath its main avenue runs from ridge to plain, and homes, shops, and temples must orient themselves around it. A shift of only a few fingers is therefore not merely a surveying error: it threatens the empire’s claim to cosmic order.
A city of faith and measurement
True Avenue carries pilgrims, surveyors, and official sermons; the Seal Courts hold conservative schools and registry tribunals. The Red Dust district houses quarry workers, travellers, and temple servants: most people who maintain the avenue’s perfection live below it. The city sells less iron than measuring rods, paper, sealing wax, and verified routes.
Maelor’s circle says hiding the shift protects order. Young surveyors know that redrawing the line would change every title, border, and pilgrimage ruling. Whichever side wins, households will wake one night on the “wrong” side of Red Meridian.
