Asteron’s Northern Passes
On this wind-scoured plateau, caravan order, military control and nomad hospitality grind together in narrow passes.
Table-facing places
- Three Posts: A pass village where retired Giff turned a barracks store into market and training yard.
- Far Step: A hillside settlement of Gith sky-watchers, quiet but not closed.
- Stone Feather: A cliff quarter where Gargoyle carvers build windbreaks.
- Northern Ledger: A small post whose travel permits last only one night.
Order and livelihood
Carrying a weapon is lawful; carrying it drawn is recorded. Giff teach road discipline, Gith maintain the sky calendar, and Gargoyles protect cliff safety. The right of way belongs to whoever serves its watch.
Pressure and hooks
The Northern Ledger seeks tighter control; the Road Table defends common lodging. A late permit becomes a caravan pileup, food dispute and avalanche-struck pass.
- A Giff instructor says their missing artillery plans are for avalanche prevention.
- Far Step’s sky signs warn of a storm the post refuses to believe.
- Stone Feather’s windbreak has been recarved with unknown marks.
