Meridian Rivers

Asteron’s long rivers run beneath imperial ledgers, but each wharf keeps a rhythm no ruler’s ruler can fully measure.

Table-facing places

  • Blue Seal: The customs wharf at a three-river junction.
  • Dream Threshold: A quiet Kalashtar guesthouse and mediation square.
  • Glass Wing: A small observatory-village of Vedalken flood recorders.
  • Root Bond: A Khoravar boatwright quarter known for articulated hulls.

Order and livelihood

A vessel is recognized first by its manifest. Night travel is lawful, but unloading requires a spoken witness from the night watch. Khoravar work in shipyards, Vedalken in records, and Kalashtar in difficult hearings.

Pressure and hooks

The Imperial River Office demands uniformity while the Independent Wharf Councils defend local barter. Delayed seals become lost cargo, a dock strike and a de facto division of the river.

  • Three captains shared one dream at Dream Threshold and now accuse one another.
  • A manifest from Blue Seal cannot survive water.
  • Glass Wing’s flood chart predicts a flood coming from land.
