Location in Avarra
| Field | Record |
|---|---|
| Layer | Seas of Avarra · Mist Chain |
| Physical site | A low island that grows and shrinks with tide, surrounded by shell rocks |
| Access | Long Shell routes, shallow-water walks, and mist passages known only to local mapkeepers |
| Nearby ties | Thousand Ropes, Mist Chain islands, Nareth’s coast, and Tortle monastery networks |
| Life link | Rain cisterns, island seeds, and new knowledge brought by returning travellers |
First Shore’s harbour vanishes at low tide and the island’s stones become roads. Tortle travellers do not hide this change; every seed, story, or rule returned with them is held in common like the route. The monastery forbidding knowledge for the first time suggests the route itself has become unsafe.
Memory of the road
Shell Court receives returning stories, Seed Vault holds cisterns and the island’s future, and Mist Gate opens only at the right tide. A traveller who lost their route has not returned empty-handed if they bring a new rule or seed.
Table tensions
- Forbidden knowledge gives every shell in the Seed Vault the same dream.
- Mist Gate opens to a route from below ground as well as the sea.
- A returning Tortle’s shell map moves the entire island elsewhere.
