Urban knowledge

Mental discipline is more important than lineage. It is claimed that some crystal memories are older and more legally competent than city council members.

Prism’s domes split lake light into seven colours. They are not only symbols but the city’s working hours: courts meet under one, healing houses open under another, and memory records are read under a third. A cloudy day can put the entire civic order into dispute.

The public order of colours

Red Hall carries defence and emergency decisions, Blue Court water and healing, Violet Archive crystal memories, and Golden Threshold foreign diplomacy and trade. Each monastery teaches its colour’s discipline, while none may rule alone. Council members are chosen not by ancestry but by serving without error for long periods under specific colours.

Ancient crystal memories strain this order. If a memory recalls oaths older than living members and claims a legal vote, does the city privilege the past’s record or the consent of the living?

Table tensions

  • An eighth colour from beneath the lake opens a gate visible only to certain people.
  • A crystal witness in the Violet Archive voids the sitting council’s election.
  • A mirrored quay opens not across the lake but into a dragon tomb at Saar-Kor.
